Does Death Have A Heart?
I wonder if death has a heart Does he ever hesitate? Has he ever for a moment Wished that he could wait?
Does he ever walk real slowly? Does he ever question why? Has he ever done his duty With a tear wailed in his eye?
Does he know what kind of void he leaves Once he’s come and gone? Does he feel for those that’s left to grieve Once that last breath’s been drawn?
To answer such a question I’d not know where to start I only know it’s broken If by chance. . .death has a heart

I Always Thought You’d Be There
I always thought you’d be there It never occurred to me That I would turn around and find You’d no longer be
I always thought you’d be there For times when I’m not strong I never once prepared myself To look and find you gone
I always thought you’d be there It never crossed my mind To say so many things back then That seemed a waste of time
I always thought you’d be there As I listen for the phone And in its place hear silence To remind me I’m alone
If I could for one moment Go back in time somewhere I’d choose to live again the day I always thought you’d be there

A Grave for Dreams
In the graveyard of my memory With shovel in my hand I’ll begin to dig a hole Amid the mud and sand
There I’ll form another grave To lay beside the last To come and weep and mourn Each time I reminisce my past
You’d think I’d get the hang of this As often as I’ve cried If sorrow’s pain could lead to death I’d long ago have died
But for now, I’ll toss some dirt On what’s become my theme And lay to rest a part of me With another broken dream

Falling Stars
Where do falling stars land That never got to shine? Where is it that they end up To spend their lotted time?
Where do all the songs go That never got to sing? The novel someone never wrote The dream that someone dreamed
Where have all the words gone The ones no one will hear? Those that skillfully were rhymed And meant to bring a tear
Could there be a place somewhere That falling stars can cry? And dream of what just might have been Had fate not past them by
Now the world may never know Their talents or their names Like that Olympic hopeful Who by seconds missed the games
And that musician who would play To walls within his home. Imagining the crowds that should Have heard and should have known
The orator that lay awake At night to form her speech Knowing somewhere in her heart It’s all outside her reach
I wonder where they all might lie Is there left the slightest glow? Somewhere in forgotten land Where falling stars must go

Never Meant To Be
There are some things that are meant to be And destined from the start There are rainbows we were meant to see And deem a work of art
There are caterpillars nestled somewhere In a secret place Who were born to spread their wings and fly With uncompromising grace
Some lives began their journey Far from where that they had met To fall in love and marry Like a fairytale I’ve read
There are songbirds that are singing ’Cause the morning brought the spring Then there are songs that fate had never meant To ever have them sing
There are dreams who’s only purpose Was to fill somebody's head And bait them for tomorrow As they hang on by a thread
Then they start believing That they’re someone that they’re not Until they start to grieving ‘Cause they realized they forgot
When they had looked into a crystal ball So many years ago Who it was they thought they saw They were not suppose to know
‘Cause in my imagination I just thought that I saw me But some things were meant to happen And some never meant to be
